Le Relais du Château.

 

An ideal setting in Normandy . France. Close to the historic city of Bayeux. Home to the very famous tapestry made by Queen Mathilde in 1066, WWII landing beaches, the «Relais du Château» overlooks the Aure river, its pools and the “Forest du Quesnay”.

 

The eastern side culminates at the « Château du Petit Livry », at the center of a 350 hectares family estate with many wild animals including stags, deer and birds.

 

A little bit of history : The family estate has been a private property since centuries. It is in the eleventh century, at which point Guillaume le Conquérant (William the Conqueror), as Duc de Normandie, granted one of our ancestors, Guillaume de Percy, a large tract of land. Family ancestors also include Philippe Livry Level, distinguished hero of Verdun battle, Resistance fighter during WWII ,colonel in the Royal Air Force, “Compagnon de la Libération” recipient of the «Grand Croix de la Légion d’Honneur », the highest award for bravery in France, of the “Croix de Guerre”, of the English DSO, and DFC and the US Distinguish Flying Cross.

 

Le Relais du Château: Three independent accommodations are available. First, the Master’s Lodge, known as « Antoinette ».

At the heart of the property, it offers 4 bedrooms, including a master’s suite and 2 independent full bathrooms. The living room will invite you to relax in front of the fireplace or entice you to go outside through the full height panoramic doors & enjoy the private garden and the beautiful terrace, overlooking the softy ridged valley, BBQ and outdoor table, a TV room, a typical dining room with à very nice wood stove, a fully equipped kitchen with an impressive AGA electric cooker and a high- appliances. A laundry room complete the ground floor.

 

A second accommodation, baptized « Monique » is fully independent and is

accessed through a private entrance. You will enjoy 2 spacious rooms that can accommodate 4 persons, a bathroom and a warm and inviting setting offers an ideal lay-out for privacy as well as high-end decoration elements.

 

To finish: « Solange » an adorable 2 level house, perfect for a couple. Solange & Monique have their own private accesses and share a fully equipped laundry room with “Monique”. Guests traveling with their horses will find 4 luxurious English boxes at their disposal in the nearby stables, complete with training arena, paddocks and feed boxes.

 

For the health and body conscious, a training room is also available for your physical regimen upkeep. The surrounding region offers a treasure-trove of activities. The history buffs will be enchanted by the nearby Mont Saint-Michel, the city of Bayeux and its medieval tapestry, as well as the more recent Landing Beaches of 1944. Those more inclined to physical activities will be happy with the 4 golf courses, numerous tennis courts, and last but not least the beautiful beaches of « La Côte Fleurie », including such mythical beach resorts as Deauville and Honfleur.

 

Many regional specialties are to be found on local markets, to complete the full experience including the taste of the terroir. In the city of Bayeux, the Saturday-morning farmer’s market offers an immersion in local delicacies.

 

Fresh seafood amateurs will find ingredients to their hearts’ content at the open-air seafood markets of Port-en-Bessin and Courseulles-sur-mer.

Gourmets will be well-served by the numerous upper-end restaurants to be found in the vicinity of The Relais du Château.
